vi. 强调句的特殊情况

1. 强调句常用省略形式。

—I can't find Mr. Smith. Where did you meet him this morning?

—It was in the hotel where he stayed (that I met him this morning).

——我找不到史密斯先生。你今早在什么地方见到他的？

——是在他下榻的宾馆。

2. 强调句型中的be动词和情态动词的结合，其句式结构为：

1）It may　be/might be/might have been +被强调部分+ that ...

It might be last night that they did their homework.

他们也许是昨晚做完作业的。

It might have been John that bought a new book for Mary yesterday.

或许是约翰昨天给玛丽买了一本新书。

2）It must be/must have been+被强调部分+ that ...

It must be Peter who has let this secret out.

一定是彼得将这个秘密泄露出去的。

3）It could be/could have been +被强调部分+ that ...

Could it be that man who stole the money from the bank last year?

是否就是那个人去年从银行里偷了钱？

3. 感叹句的强调结构，既要体现强调句型的形式特征，又要体现感叹句的自然语序。总是将强调句式插入在句子的感叹词后面。

1）How +形容词+ it is that　+主语+谓语！

How happy it is that he looks!

他看上去多幸福啊！

2）What +（a）形容词+名词+ it is that +主语+谓语！

What a clever boy it is that he is!

他是多么聪明的孩子啊！
