1　only 作形容词用时，意为“唯一的，仅有的”，只能作定语，前面常有定冠词或one's，不能作表语。

Mary is his only sister. 玛丽是他唯一的妹妹。（后跟可数名词 ）

He drank the only milk in the ice box. 他把冰箱里仅有的牛奶给喝了。（后跟不可数名词 ）

These are the only parks in the city. 这些是这个城市里仅有的公园。（后跟复数名词 ）

2　only 作副词用时，意为“仅仅，只是”，可以修饰形容词、副词或动词。

Only one student failed in the exam. 只有1个学生没有及格。（修饰数量词one ）

This bird sings only in the morning . 这只鸟只在早晨鸣叫。（修饰副词短语in the morning ）

I only met him once. 我仅仅遇见过他1次。（修饰动词met ）

Only Tom lent me the money. 只有汤姆把钱借给我。（别人不借给我）
