1　so that 是用作连词的短语，因此不可分开，可以引导目的状语从句和结果状语从句，意为“为的是，以便”。

Speak a little louder so that they can hear you clearly. 讲话声音大些，以便他们能听清楚。（目的状语从句 ）

She got up early so that she could catch the train. 她起床早，为的是能赶上火车。（目的状语从句 ）

He was ill,so that he was unable to go with you. 他病了，不能和你一道去了。（结果状语从句，前面常用逗号同主句隔开 ）

Tom came late, so that he did not see her. 汤姆来迟了，结果没有见到她。（结果状语从句）

2　so...that 意为“如此……以致，那样……以致”，so 后跟形容词或副词，that引导结果状语从句。

He was so ill that they had to send for the doctor. 他病得那样重，他们不得不请医生。

He ran so fast that no one could catch him. 他跑得那样快，以致没有人能抓住他。

①如果so...that是否定句，可以转换为too...to句型，表示“太……不能”。如果句中的主句主语和从句主语不是同一人，就要在不定式前加for sb.，作不定式的逻辑主语。

He is so young that he can't join the army. 他年龄太小，不能参军。

he is too young to join the army.

The box is so heavy that I can't carry it.

The box is too heavy for me to carry .

这箱子太重了，我搬不动。（注意，原句的it必须去掉）

②so可以单独用在句子开头，表示根据上面的情况会有如下的结果，意为“如此，这么说”。

So you won't come, will you？这么说你不来了，是吗？

3　such...that 结构中such 后应接名词，即such+名词+that从句，that从句表示结果。

It is such an interesting film that I want to see it again. 这部电影极为有趣，我想再看一遍。

It's such an important meeting that we can't miss it. 这个会议如此重要，我们不能不去。
