TUNE: SPRING IN JADE PAVILION
Since your departure, I know not how far you’ve gone.
With tearful eyes, how sad and dreary to be alone!
The farther you go away, the fewer your word;
No letter-bearing fish in water wide is heard.
At dead of night the bamboos beat Autumn’s refrain;
Leaf on leaf, sound on sound cry out my grief and pain.
I seek for you on dreaming pillow with deep sighs,
But no dream comes to me, the lamp flickers and dies.
