I planted peas beneath the southern hill;
The peas are few, but weeds grow in their stead;
At dawn I rise to clear the dust and filth,
Bring back my hoe with moon above my head.
The way is narrow, grass and shrubs are high,
My clothing all is stained with ev’ning dew;
For stains upon my clothes I do not care,
If I am free my wishes to pursue.
