Wangchuan After a Long Spell of Rain

Slowly curls the cooking smoke from the rain-washed fragrant glade,
The greens and millet for him at work will in the fields be laid.
Above the well-lined paddy fields the egrets gladly fly,
From the murky forest oriole’s warbling notes come floating by.
For peace in mind I climb to a height and stare at the morning-best,
And under thee pine on vegetables dine with water-shield well dressed.
Gone are the days when my former self did vie for post and fame,
Now what is there to shake my faith since man and bird are the same?
