Emily Bronte

爱密莉·勃朗特（Emily Bronte，1818-1848），英国十九世纪著名的勃朗特三姐妹之一。一生都在家乡约克郡的旷野山乡度过。荒凉而野性的大自然对她的性格和创作产生了重要影响。她写出过不少感情丰富，寓意深刻，具有一定象征色彩的诗作。它们表现爱情，探讨人生，思考死亡，在风格和气质上与她的小说《呼啸山庄》相呼应。强烈的感情冲撞，精神与心灵的震荡，形成了她的诗歌和小说的共同气质。爱密莉的作品在当时并不被人注意，直至20世纪中叶她的诗名才被真正确立。

Ah! why, because the dazzling sun

Why did the morning dawn to break

So great, so pure a spell,

And scorch with fire the tranquil cheek

Where your cool radiance fell?

Blood-red he rose, and arrow-straight

His fierce beams struck my brow:

The soul of Nature sprang elate,

But mine sank sad and low!

It would not do—the pillow glowed

And birds sang loudly in the wood,

And fresh winds shook the door.

窗帘飘舞，梦中醒来的苍蝇

The curtains waved, the wakened flies

满屋子飞来飞去，嗡嗡叫，

Were murmuring round my room,

怎么也飞不出去，我只好起身

Imprisoned there, till I should rise

And give them leave to roam.

O Stars and Dreams and Gentle Night;

O Night and Stars return!

请把我跟含有敌意的亮光隔绝，

And hide me from the hostile light

That does not warm, but burn—

它把受苦人的血液统统耗干；

That drains the blood of suffering men;

Drinks tears, instead of dew:

Let me sleep through his blinding reign,
