梭　罗

Henry David Thoreau

梭罗（Henry David Thoreau，1817-1862），美国著名散文家和诗人。他崇尚自由，反对蓄奴制，亲自帮助黑奴逃离羁绊。他主张返朴归真，接近自然，不应追求物质文明的发达，以免丧失人为万物之灵长的崇高地位。他以散文著称，《瓦尔登湖》是他的散文代表作。生前受到冷落，直到二十世纪三、四十年代，他的诗歌的价值才被重新认识。当年爱默生认为他只擅长散文，不擅写诗。其实他的诗不属于过去，而属于现在。与狄金森相似，他作为诗人是二十世纪的前驱。

啊，自然！我并不企盼

O nature! I do not aspire

成为你歌队里至尊的一员——

To be the highest in thy choir, —

做一颗天上璀璨的流星

To be a meteor in thy sky,

或在高空中漫游的彗星；

Or comet that may range on high;

我只想做一缕柔和的轻风，

Only a zephyr that may blow

穿梭在河畔的芦苇丛中；

Among the reeds by the river low;

告诉我你最僻静的地方，

Give me thy most privy place

Where to run my airy race.

来到僻远幽静的草地，

In some withdrawn, unpublic mead

我倚着芦苇轻轻地叹息，

Let me sigh upon a reed ,

Or in the woods, with leafy din ,

Whisper the still evening in:

让我为你做一些事情，——

Some still work give me to do, —

For I'd rather be thy child
