Elephant Trunk Hill, which is also just called Elephant Hill, is located at the confluence of Peach Blossom and Lijiang Rivers. This place is Guilin's emblem. The hill's summit is 220 meters above sea level and it rises 55 meters above the river's water surface. The hill is made up of pure limestone deposited in the bottom of the sea 360 million years ago. Its shape is solitary, straight and steep, while its rock is old. There is a water moon cave between the elephant trunk and the legs resembling a bright moon floating on the water. This is the famous scene“Water Moon of Elephant Hill”integrating the clear hill, beautiful water, fantastic cave, charming rocks and reflection into one beautiful image. For a thousand years and through many dynasties it has inspired famous poets to write verses and is now a must-see spot for tourists visiting Guilin. It is said that in ancient times, a divine being traveled to Guilin with his subordinates. One of their elephants became ill because the load he had to carry was too heavy. When this animal was left to die near the Lijiang River, the kind-hearted local people took good care of it and it recovered soon. The elephant was delighted with the place's beautiful scenery and kind people and naturally decided to stay there to help the farmers harvest their crops. As soon as the divine being heard about this, he sent his soldiers to take the elephant back. These troops and the local villagers fought against each other for three days and nights, with neither side securing a clear victory. So the divine being stealthily stabbed the elephant to death in the heart while it was drinking water near the river. From then on, the image of the elephant was left in the river.

女士们，先生们，欢迎来到象鼻山风景区。现在让我介绍一下象鼻山，请跟我来。象鼻山简称象鼻山，位于桃花江与漓江的交汇处。桂林的城徽即以象山为标志。象山海拔220米，高出水面55米，由13亿6千万年前海底沉积的纯石灰岩组成。山形孤拔陡峭，岩石古苍。在象鼻与象腿之间有一水月洞，有如一轮明月静泽水上，形成著名的“象山水月”。此景集清山、秀水、奇洞、美石、倒影于一体，成为历代诗人吟咏不绝的对象，是游人至桂的必游之地。相传远古时候，天帝带了天臣神兽南巡到桂林，天象因驮运过重病倒，被遗弃在漓江边。后来，它被漓江人医治康复，见这里山美水美人更美，不愿重返天堂，便留下来为民耕作。天帝得知，马上派出天兵天将来捉拿。他们大战三天三夜，不分胜负。天将趁双方歇战，大象到江边喝水之时，偷偷抽出利剑，从象背插入象心，把它刺死在水边。从此，天象的英姿就长留人间。
