The two actors — who have both portrayed the Joker within the past five years — met briefly at Sunday’s award show in Los Angeles.

“Just havin’ a laugh ,” Keoghan, 31, wrote in his Instagram caption for the two photos he posted on Monday.

Phoenix, 49, portrayed failed comedian Arthur Fleck before he became the clown-faced supervillain in the Joker, a 2019 film that earned him the Academy Award for best actor. Meanwhile, Keoghan played the Joker opposite Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the 2022 movie The Batman.

The presence of two other Joker actors was felt at Sunday’s ceremony, with Jared Leto sitting near Phoenix and the late Heath Ledger receiving an onstage tribute from The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan.

“The only time I've ever been on this stage before was accepting one of these on behalf of our dear friend Heath Ledger, and that was complicated and challenging for me,” said Nolan, 53, referencing 2008’s The Dark Knight, while accepting the award for best director for Oppenheimer.
