Bernard Hill, the actor best known for playing Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 history-making film Titanic, has died. He was 79.

Hill died Sunday morning, his manager William Blaylock confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. No cause of death was disclosed.

Hill was expected to appear at ComicCon in Liverpool on Saturday, but canceled last minute according to a statement from the convention. Following the news of his death, organizers shared a statement of grief to social media.
