An old cattleman rode into a clearing and saw anenraged bull about to charge a cowboy who hadbecome separated from his horse. Head down andnostrils flared, the bull charged. The cowboy divedinto a convenient recess in the ground, and the bullplunged across the hole. The cowboy leaped out, andon came the bull again, madder than ever. Back intothe hole dropped the cowboy. The cattleman watchedthis happen half a dozen times, then yelled, "Whydon't you just stay in the hole?" Leaping out again, the cowboy shouted, "There's a bear in thathole."

一个年老的放牛人骑马来到一块开阔地，看到一头发怒的公牛正要朝一个已经从马上掉下的牛仔撞去。那头公牛低着头，张着鼻孔，冲了过去。牛仔顺势一下子跳进地上的一个洞里，公牛从洞上跳了过去。牛仔跳出洞，公牛又冲了过来，比先前更疯狂了。牛仔又跳回洞里。放牛人看着这一幕重复了一次又一次，于是喊道：“你为什么不呆在洞里?”牛仔又跳了出来，喊道：“洞里有只熊!”
