有位刚出国的留学生到快餐店吃饭
没有餐巾纸，然后跟人说要'paper'
结果服务人员拿来了张白纸，还问：Do you need a pen?

虽说是梗，这种情景或多或少在现实中上演过。因为一说到“纸”，很多同学的第一反应可能都是“paper”，但英语中，不是所有的“纸”都叫“paper”，搞错了甚至会闹大笑话。

paper
纸张；报纸
paper常用来表示写字、画画或者打印的纸张，除此之外，还有“试卷；报纸；论文”等意思。所以很多时候，你对老外说“paper”，他们会以为你是要用来写字。

纸巾
英文释义：A tissue is a piece of thin soft paper that you use to blow your nose.
多指家中常用的抽纸。比较薄软，用来擦嘴巴、鼻子或手等。

napkin & serviette [ˌsɜːviˈet]
餐巾纸
英文释义：a piece of cloth or paper used at meals for protecting your clothes and cleaning your lips and fingers.
napkin 和 serviette 为同义词。一般指餐厅提供的餐巾纸，多为折叠摆放，比较厚。可以是纸做的，也可以是布料做的。
He dabbed at his lips with the napkin.

wipe
(一次性）湿巾
英文释义：wipe is a small moist cloth for cleaning things and is designed to be used only once.
Remember to take nappies and baby wipes .
记住带尿布和婴儿的湿纸巾。

handkerchief [ˈhæŋkətʃɪf]
手帕；手帕纸
英文释义：a small piece of material（布料） or paper that you use for blowing your nose, etc.
