主语和谓语必须在人称和数上一致：
The content of these books 1is very good .这些书的内容很好。
Between the two buildings stands a monument .
两座楼之间有一座纪念碑。
The results of the examination show that you have made good progress . 考试结果说明你们有很大进步。
关于这个问题，下面几点值得注意：
1 .主语若是一个抽象概念，谓语都用单数形式：
Growing vegetables needs constant watering .种菜要经常浇水。
Smoking cigarettes is hazardous to your health .吸烟危害健康。
2 .主语若是单数，不受后面状语的影响，谓语仍用单数形式：
Nobody but Helen and Kate was there .除了海伦和凯特那儿没人。
No one except his parents knows anything about it . 除了他父母谁也不知此事。
3 . each 和由some , any , no , every 构成合成代词都作单数看待：
Each of us have something to Say .我们每人都有些话说。
Is every body ready ?大家都准备好了吗?
4 . what , who，which 等代词可以左单数看待，也可作复数看待，根据意思决定：which is your room ?哪是你的房间?
Which are your rooms ?哪几间是你们的房间?
Who is knocking at the door ?谁在敲门?
Who are quarrelling ?谁在吵架?
5 . none 可作单数看待，也可作复数看待，看说话人联想的是单数概念还是复数概念：
None ( = Not one )of us has got a camera .我们中间没有一个人有像机。
None of these bookks arr easy enongh for us .这些书全太难，我们看不懂。
6 .有些集体名词可追单数看待，也可作复数看待，根据意思决定：
His family isn't very large .嘶家里人不多。
His family are all music lovers .他家里人都喜欢音乐。
The committee meets twice a month .委员会一月开两次会。
The committee are divided in opinion.委员们意见有分歧。
