生人、熟人都要small talk
Small talk在北美非常普遍。即使陌生人之间，在很多情况下，也要寒暄闲聊几句：
Strangers 陌生人
Acquaintances 熟人
Cashiers 收营员
Waiters 服务员
Coworkers 同事
Neighbors 邻居
……

#1.怎么打招呼?
最经典:
(Good) Morning, afternoon
Good evening
注意: 前者母语者常常省略good，语气更加轻松一些。不过后者不可以省略
最地道:
Hi there!
How is it going?
What's up?
注意: What's up?非常不正式，是年轻人喜欢的俚语。
怎么回复?
Good. 挺好的
Not bad. 不错
So far so good. 到目前为止还不错
什么场合用：
Anywhere
小tip: small talk一般不涉及到你生活的细节，所以如果有什么委屈事还是留给家人朋友：
Keep it positive. 只谈好事。
#2.如何聊天气?
虽然聊天气没新意，但的确还是最自然、最容易入手的话题!
怎么聊?
Depending on the weather, make appropriate comments: 根据当天的天气，聊对应的
Nice weather 如果是好天
What nice weather we are having!
Gorgeous weather!
What a beautiful day out!
Horrible weather 如果是坏天气
What terrible weather outside!
The weather sucks.
注意: suck这个词不太得体的，只能和很熟悉的人说。

除了简单的问侯、天气，还可以稍微深入一些：
怎么聊?
How is it going? 今天怎么样?
How is your day going? 同上
怎么回复：
It's a busy day.
It's a slow/quiet day.
什么场合用:
In the office: 跟同事、老板
In the store: 跟商店店员
In the coffee shop：咖啡店店员
#4.最有巧思:谈着装
如果想更有新意，着装是个不错的话题!
怎么聊:
Nice shoes/shirt/dress!
I love your shoes/shirt/dress!
Where did you get it? 你哪里买的?
You look great today!(如果对方换了造型，这句很合适。但也要小心，因为如果对方没什么变化，这样说可能让人感觉你认为他平时很邋遢。)
You look well rest! 看起来气色很好(一般放假、周末以后可以用)
