viii. 结果状语从句

1. so that, so ... that都可以引导结果状语从句。

He left for the station very early so that he caught the train to Shanghai.

他动身去火车站很早，于是赶上了去上海的火车。

The weather was so hot that we had to put off the sports meeting.

天气如此的热，我们只好推迟了运动会。

2. so +形容词/副词+ that从句

The wind was so strong that we could hardly move forward.

风如此大，以至于我们几乎不能前行。

3. so +形容词+ a/an +名词+ that从句

It was so hot a day that no one would like to go out and play.

天那么热以至于没有人想出去玩。

4. such + a/an +(形容词)+名词+ that从句

I gave him such a shock that his face turned white.

我把他吓了一跳，他的脸都变白了。

5. such +形容词+名词 (复数/不可数)+ that从句

They are such difficult problems that no one in our class can work them out.

它们是如此难的问题以至于我们班里没有人能够算出来。

6. such + a/an +形容词+名词+ that从句= so +形容词+ a/an +名词+ that从句

It was such a hot day that no one would like to go out and play.

it was so hot a day that no one would like to go out and play.

天如此的热以至于没有人想出去玩。

7. so + many/much/few/little（少）+名词+ that从句

He made so many mistakes in the exam that his teacher was very angry.

他考试中犯了那么多错误，老师都生气了。

8. “so +形容词/副词”放在句首时，要引起主句的部分倒装。

So difficult were the maths problems in yesterday's exam that almost no one in our class worked them out all correctly.

昨天的数学考试题那么难，我们班几乎没有一个学生全做出来。

9. “such+(a/an)+形容词+名词”放句首时，要引起主句的部分倒装。

Such rapid progress did he made that he soon began to write articles in English.

他取得这样快的进步，所以他不久就开始用英文写稿了。

10. so和that都可以单独用来引导结果状语从句。

That animal has so small a mouth (that) it can hardly eat anything.

这个动物嘴很小，以至于几乎不能吃食。

I'm not a fool that you shouldn't expect me to be cheated by you from time to time.

我不是傻瓜，所以你不应当指望我再三受你的骗。

11. with the result that引导从句。

He had never worked hard at his lessons with the result that he couldn't pass the college entrance examination last year.

他从来不在功课上下功夫结果去年没有通过高考。
