万圣节马上就要到了，那么有关万圣节的文化你又了解多少呢?今天，Alan老师和翩翩老师就和童鞋们聊一聊：有关万圣节的一些相关话题。
1. 万圣节为什么叫 Halloween?
The word Halloween is a shortening of AII Hallows' Evening 原来 Halloween 是 All Hallows’ Evening
的简写.
Halloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. 万圣节是在10月31日晚上庆祝的节日.
celebrate： 庆祝
on the night of October 31: 在10月31号晚上

指在某一天 / 某一天的上午，下午，晚上

时间范围大：in January 在一月 / in winter 在冬季 / in 2018
泛指在上午，下午，晚上。如：in the morning 上午 / in the daytime 在白天

时间最短，一般表示时间点，如at six o’clock, at three thirty.

2. 万圣节那天外国友人们都在做什么呢?
在美国，他们当然不会放过一个举办 Party 的好日子啦!会举办一些化妆舞会(masquerade party / masquerade ball)，除了party,还有哪些传统活动呢?
Traditional activities: 传统的活动
trick-or-treating： 不给糖就捣乱
bonfires ：篝火
costume parties ：化妆晚会
haunted houses： 鬼屋

carve: 雕刻
jack-o-lanterns：空心南瓜灯
Some families carve lanterns with scary faces out of pumpkins 。These were traditionally intended to ward off evil spirits.
有些家庭会把南瓜或者其他蔬菜挖空，在上面雕刻”鬼脸”，这样做是为了抵御恶魔
If you are at home on Halloween, it is a good idea to have a bowl of small presents or sweets to offer to anyone who knock on your door.
如果万圣节那天你在家，在碗里装些小礼物或者糖果来打发那些敲门的人.
This will help you to please(取悦) the little spirits(小精灵，指来敲门的小孩们) in your neighborhood(家附近的社区)!
3. 万圣节的化装游行：Halloween parade!
重头戏来了，大家准备好流量

中世纪，人们穿上动物造型的服饰、戴上可怕的面具是为了在万圣节前夜驱赶黑夜中的鬼怪(ward off evil spirits)。But now, Halloween is getting commercialized, costumes started to appear in stores.万圣节开始变得商业化, 万圣节服饰开始在各大商店出现

这个节日在美国是全民庆祝吗?
在美国，有些基督徒是不过万圣节。但现在过万圣节的方式和之前有所不同，现在更趋于商业化。所以大多过万圣节的美国基督徒更喜欢把万圣节称为秋天的节日( the fall festival )。
4 . 在中国，咱们有哪些鬼节呢?
中国农历( lunar calendar ) 有三大鬼节：清明、中元、寒衣。但是我们不会celebrate， 很多人会去visit the grave(上坟)，或者 burn paper money for the dead(烧纸)
我们中国受儒家思想(confucian thoughts)影响很深，孔子(Confucius)说:不谈论那些supernatural force(超自然的力量)
翩翩有段时间比较敏感，一到鬼节前后几天就会梦魇( have nightmares around those days )，后来对信仰开始认真坚定后就再也没这样过。
