    apologize v.

    Apologize to your sister.

I must apologize for not being able to meet you.

I apologized that I stepped on her foot.

正:I apologized to her for stepping on her foot.

    apology n.

    Please accept my apologies.

I make no apology (to him) for what I said.

A:The time has come to say goodbye, I'm afraid.

B:So soon. It seems as if you just got here.

A:I feel that way, too. But it is said that all good things must come to an end.

B:It certainly has been a pleasure chatting with you here.

A:Yes, I've had a delightful time with you, and I appreciate your spending so much time with me.

B:I hope you will be here again if you're free.

    It's about time.

I'll time for lunch. "Yeah, it's about time."

比较地道的表示是It's about time.

About time表示“该……的时候了”,句型It's about time… It's about time I went home.“是我回家的时候了。” Time和不同介词搭配构成的短语还有:on time表示“准时”,in time表示“及时”,比如,but for the storm, we would have been in time.“要不是这场暴风雨我们会及时到的。”

表示“已经没有时间了”,可以说:Time is up.或者Time is running out. The contract runs out at the end of the month.“合同本月底到期。”

    A:Yes, I'm afraid so.

B:In that case, I won't insist your staying. Did you have a good time here?

A:Yes. I had lots of fun tonight and enjoyed every minute here.

B:Oh, I'm very happy to hear that. I am talking a blue streak, hah. Be careful when you are on the way home.

    A:I will. See you.

    A:是的。

    a blue streak

    第一种用法是:“跑的像电一样快”(to go like a blue streak).

    第二种用法是:“连珠炮似的讲话”(to talk a blue steak).

    英国人把这种人比喻为talk off a donkey's (a dog's, a horse's) hind leg,是指话说的天花乱坠或叨唠不休,把驴、狗或马的后腿都讲断了。

The motorcyclist had gone like a blue streak toward Baker Street.

Once she starts talking, she's talk a blue streak.
