检验可以分为一般检验和法定检验，可以在装运港进行，也可以在抵达港进行，由双方协商决定。法定检验，指商检机构根据法律、法规对进出口商品执行强制性的检验。属于法定检验的出口商品，检验不合格的，则不准出口；属于法定检验的进口商品，未经检验的，则不准销售。

hard and fast rule不可通融的事情，严格的规定
hard和fast这两个词都有几种不同的解释，但是在这里hard的意思是“严格的”，而fast解释为“固定的”。习惯用语hard and fast最初出现在1850年前后，用来描绘一艘搁浅的船或者在码头上待修的船，无论哪种情况这艘船反正是动弹不得、毫无回旋余地了。
此外与fast有关的习语和俚语还有：play fast and loose意思是“反复无常、朝三暮四。”
