1　clothes 是“衣服，衣裳”的总称，包括上衣、下衣、外衣、内衣。

She has spent a lot of money on clothes . 她花了许多钱买衣服。

It's cold outside; you'd better put on more clothes . 外面很冷，你最好加穿些衣服。

提示

clothes是复数名词，谓语动词用复数形式，不能和表示具体数字的数词连用，“一套衣服”不可说a clothes，要说a suit of clothes。

2　clothing 也是衣服的总称，范围比clothes 广，除衣服外，还包括手套、鞋帽等。clothing 是集体名词，只能用单数形式。

They are all in summer clothing . 他们都穿着夏装。

In winter children need warm clothing . 冬天，孩子们需要穿暖和的衣服。

3　dress 指外衣，多指儿童、妇女的日常服装、连衣裙等，为可数名词。

That's a nice dress . 那是一件漂亮的女装／童装。

She bought several new dresses this summer. 她今年夏天买了几件新衣服。

4　coat 指大衣或上衣。

She bought a coat for her daughter. 她为女儿买了一件大衣。

Put on your coat , please. 请把上衣穿上。

5　suit 指一套衣服，多指男西装。

He wore a new suit for the party. 他穿着一套新衣服参加晚会。

6　cloth 指“布，布料”，为不可数名词。

She bought a piece of cloth . 她买了一块布。

How much cloth do you need? 你需要多少布料？

当cloth指具体用途的布时，是可数名词。

She covered the table with a white cloth . 她用一块白桌布把桌子盖住。
