John's girl friend had been trying to get John—a rock and roll1 fan —interested in classical music. When she offered to purchase2 tickets to a Mozart festival, John willingly agreed to accompany her and seemed to enjoy the symphony3.

After the concert, she mentioned how Mozart's music moved her. "At times, I can almost hear his voice in the music and I feel as though he's talking to me." She said.

John nodded his head in solemn agreement. "Yes," he said, "I know what you mean." Feeling very pleased that she had made him changed, she asked what he felt the music was saying to him.

He replied, "It said, go to sleep, John, go to sleep…"

音　乐

约翰的女友一直试图让摇滚乐迷约翰对古典音乐感兴趣。她主动提出购买两张莫扎特音乐节的门票，他也很乐意陪她，而且似乎喜欢上了交响乐。

音乐会后，她提到莫扎特的音乐如何如何打动了她。“有好几次我几乎可以听到他在音乐中的声音，感觉到好像他在对我倾述。”她说道。

约翰表情严肃地点点头表示赞同。“是的”，他说，“我明白你的意思”。女友为约翰的转变而高兴，于是问他是如何感受音乐的话语的。

他回答：“交响乐对我说，睡吧，约翰，睡吧……”
