炕是北方人睡的一种特殊的床，一般由砖砌成，内含加热装置，冬天睡起来非常暖和。那么“炕”用英语怎么说呢?我们一起来研究一下吧。

“炕”在外语教学与研究出版社的《汉英词典》第三版中的翻译是

heatable brick bed

个人认为这个翻译还是非常精准的。heatable是“可以加热的”，brick是“砖”。heatable brick bed也即“可加热的由砖砌成的床”。有一点要注意，尽管brick是可数名词，而且炕是由很多砖砌成的，但在这里brick依然要用单数，因为这里是brick修饰bed，名词修饰名词——名词修饰名词的时候第一个名词要用单数。

但是，炕也有可能是土砌成的，请看下面来自BBC官网的一段话：

These cave homes are warm in the winter when the temperature falls to -30C (-22F), and cool in the summer when the thermometer soars to 28C (82F). And there is one really enviable feature: right inside the door is a bed made of earth, a "kang".

因此，“炕”翻译为heatable earth bed也可以，只不过土做成的炕没有砖砌成的炕常见。
