Wild geese on voyage southward fly;

旅雁向南飞，

In wind and rain one goes awry.

风雨群初失。

Tired, hungry and thirsty, with two wings hanging down,

饥渴辛勤两翅垂，

It comes alone on the cold down.

独下寒汀立。

Waterbirds are hard to get near;

鸥鹭苦难亲，

Of arrows it oft stands in fear.

矰缴忧相逼。

Where in the vast sea of clouds can it go along?

云海茫茫无处归，

Who’d hear in haste its plaintive song?

谁听哀鸣急？
