Like a wreath of smoke rises autumn breeze;

袅袅秋风起，

Shower by shower

萧萧败叶声。

Fall withered leaves from the trees.

岳阳楼上听哀筝，

On Yueyang Tower I hear sad music plays.

楼下凄凉江月，

For whom in the bower

为谁明？

The moon over the river sheds its gloomy rays?

雾雨沉云梦，

The Cloud-Dreaming Lake lost in haze and rain;

烟波渺洞庭。

The Dongting Lake spreads like a boundless plain

可怜无处问湘灵，

With its misty water green.

只有无情江水，

Alas! Where can I find the drowned Fairy Queen?

绕江城。

Only the feelingless river flows down
