Sweden is Taking over the
Presidency of the European Union

In news from Europe: Sweden is taking over the presidency【主席地位】of the European Union. It is the first time Sweden has held the six-month presidency since joining the group in 1995. It is replacing(1) France. Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson said he will use the presidency to improve EU ties with Russia. He also hopes to work on employment(2) and retirement(3) issues.
