Czech Television Reporters Strike


In Prague: Czech political leaders have met to settle(1)a crisis at the country’s public television station. Striking reporters occupied the newsroom of the state-operated Czech television. They are protesting(2) what they say are threats to the station’s independence(3). Parliamentary speaker Vladslav Claus said the reporters should end their strike. He also appealed to the news station director to reconsider dismissing(4) several workers. The reporters want the new station director to resign(5). They accuse him of being too closely tied to the conservative parliamentary speaker.
