     While most young people attempt to lead a completely independent life, some others prefer to rely on the assistance of their parents, relatives or even friends whenever and wherever possible. As is symbolically illustrated in the drawing above, a frail shaking senior citizen is feeding a sleeping young adult in a suit in his baby blanket with a nursing bottle on which is written "old-age pension". The young man is clearly able to work but prefers being supported by his elderly parents.
     It may seem strange but it is a known fact that some graduates remain at home without working while relying on their parents to financially support them all through their lives. Some other graduates may work yet also rely on their parents to subsidize their lifestyles. This reliance on parents from the cradle to the grave means that they never achieve any form of independence and throws doubt on whether they could deal with the real world if anything happened to their parents.
     Of course it is the duty of parents to look after their children but they should also encourage their young to leave the nest so that at some time in the future they will have learned to look after themselves and pass on this trait of independence to their own children.

     虽然大多数年轻人试图过一种完全独立的生活，还有些人无论何时何地只要一有可能就喜欢依赖父母、亲戚，甚至朋友的帮助。上图象征性地说明：一位身体虚弱、颤颤巍巍的老人正在用一只上面写着"养老金"的奶瓶喂养婴儿毯中一名穿着西装熟睡的年轻人。这个年轻男人显然具备工作能力，却更喜欢靠年迈的父母养活。
     有件事看似奇怪，实则众所周知：有些大学毕业生待在家里不去工作，一辈子靠父母资助；还有些毕业生可能工作，但生活开销还要靠父母补贴。这种对父母一辈子的依赖意味着他们从未实现任何形式的独立；如果父母真出了什么事，他们能否应对现实世界令人怀疑。
     当然，照顾子女是父母的责任。不过，父母也应鼓励子女离家独立。只有这样，在将来的某一天，子女才能学会照顾自己，并把独立的品质传给下一代。
