到2050年，我国65岁以上的人口将达到总人口数的约四分之一。由于死亡率(mortality rate)的降低和计划生育政策(the One Child Policy)，中国人口正在高速老龄化。这将给中国政府带来养老金难题，而且可能会降低中国未来的竞争力。随着我国社会经济的迅猛发展,人民生活水平提高了,医疗卫生服务也得到了改善。不少人对我国日益增多的老年人口表示十分担忧。但有专家指出，一旦我们看到人口老龄化背后所蕴藏的贸易契机和丰富的才智经验，就会意识到老龄化虽然给我们带来了巨大的压力，但是我们可以将压力转化为机遇。
