今天是主播Jerry暂时告别的一期podcast，因为Jerry是Korean（韩国人），他要go to the army（参军），to serve in the military（去服兵役）。

Jerry这次要服18个月的兵役，所以他跟Duke University申请了a gap year（休学一年）。

在我们的认知里，服兵役都是两年。但在韩国，不同的兵种，兵役时长也不一样。

The soldiers in air force（空军）serve for 21 months.

The soldiers in the navy（海军）serve for 20 months.

Thesoldiers in the army（陆军）serve for 18 months.

现在服兵役的时间已经缩短了。

Jerry’s dad has served in the army for 30 months, back then. Jerry的爸爸当时在军队服役30个月。

Jerry在部队applied for the military interpreter position（申请了军事翻译），而且已经passed the interview（通过了面试），他要work with US soldiers（和美国士兵对接）。

Jerry还申请了中东地区的United Nations peacekeeper（联合国维和人员），Jerry希望借此机会，further expand his perspective of the world（进一步拓宽他对世界的看法）。

Jerry进部队后，会有training（培训）。

主要是学习how to shoot a gun（如何开枪），how to throw a grenade（怎么扔手榴弹），还有how to survive under a chemical attack（如何在化学物质的攻击下生存），等等。

聊到这些培训内容，身为学霸的Jerry表示很scared。
