在谈判的过程中要将商品质量的标准尽量具体化、细节化，通常质量是以下列方法的其中一种或几种来表示的：
1．市场上商品的等级；
2．品牌；
3．商业上常用的标准；
4．物理或化学的规格；
5．性能的规格；
6．样品。
谈判时双方必须对商品的质量达成互相同意的质量标准，以避免日后的纠纷或法律诉讼。对于瑕疵品或仓储运输过程中损坏的商品，在谈判时也应说清由谁来负责。

skate on thin ice的意思是“在薄薄的一层冰上滑行”，这自然是非常危险了，所以慢慢地就被人用来表示“铤而走险；如履薄冰”的意思了，汉语里也有类似的说法。如果强调非常危险，也可以在thin前面加上very加以强调。
