China's digital economy grew to 39.2 trillion yuan in 2020, accounting for 38.6% of the country's total GDP and up 9.7% year on year, according to a report. The report on development of the internet in China was released by the Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies at the World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, which opened Sunday in East China's Zhejiang province.

In 2020, the volume of e-commerce transactions recorded in China reached 37.21 trillion yuan, up 4.5% from 2019, while the operating income of the e-commerce service sector reached 5.45 trillion yuan, an increase of 21.9% year on year, according to the report.

2020年，中国电子商务交易额达到37.21万亿元，同比增长4.5%;电子商务服务业营业收入规模达到5.45万亿元，同比增长21.9%。

The digital economy has become a key option for countries around the world seeking to hedge against the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and to speed up economic and social transformation, said a report on global internet development also released on Sunday, adding that new information infrastructure has gradually become a new driving force for global economic growth.

《世界互联网发展报告2021》指出，数字经济成为世界各国应对新冠肺炎疫情冲击、加快经济社会转型的重要选择。新型信息基础设施逐步成为全球经济增长的新动能。
