In late spring days the gentle breeze
迟迟春日弄轻柔,
Plays with the slender willow trees;
花径暗香流。
Fragrance permeats the flowery pathway.
清明过了,
After the clear, bright Mourning Day,
不堪回首,
How can I bear to think of bygone hours
云锁珠楼。
Now clouds have veiled my crimson bower?
午窗睡起莺声巧,
I wake from nap to hear the happy orioles sing.
何处唤春愁?
Where will their songs evoke the grief of spring?
绿杨影里,
In willows’ shade,
海棠亭畔,
By balustrade
红杏梢头。
Of the Crabapple Bower,
Amid apricot flowers.
