叶芝（William B. Yeats，1865-1939），二十世纪最重要的英语诗人之一。生于爱尔兰都柏林。早期受到浪漫派诗风影响，作品多描写优美恬静的自然景象，同时他吸收了爱尔兰民间文学的养份，形成了自己的诗风。中期的叶芝受到爱尔兰文艺复兴运动的影响，诗歌表现出强烈的民族情感。他的诗表达了对西方传统文明的反思，对二十世纪人类精神历程的忧患，以及对物质主义给人性带来危机的深刻焦虑。中晚期的诗作大多离不开他那神秘主义的象征体系，而最终他的神秘主义又转化为对永恒艺术的追求。

在逐渐扩展的旋锥上旋转又旋转，

猎鹰再也听不见主人的呼声；
