肯明斯（E. E. Cummings，1894-1962），美国诗人、画家。自幼深受传统文化的影响，喜爱英国浪漫主义和唯美主义诗歌，这使得他的诗在主题方面接近英国传统诗歌，讴歌大自然，赞美青春和美好的理想等，感情真挚而热烈。但是，他在诗歌形式方面却走上了叛逆的道路，追求奇特而新颖的表达技巧，在分行、用词、句法、标点、大小写等方面十分自由，甚至标新立异。这种形式上的创新有时与诗的主题形成特殊的审美意境和效果，令人耳目一新，但有时流于一种文字游戏，为人所诟病。

一旦上帝放弃我的身体

从我美好的眼睛里会萌生一棵树

From each brave eye shall sprout a tree

树上摇晃的果子

fruit that dangles therefrom

会向这绚烂的世界舞蹈

the purpled world will dance upon

在我的曾经唱歌的双唇之间

Between my lips which did sing

a rose shall beget the spring
