女娲传说

女娲 （Nuwa）是中国远古时期 （remote antiquity）母系氏族 （matriarchal clan）社会一位很有名望的部落首领。根据古老的中国传说，女娲创造了人类。上古之时，天塌了四角，九州分裂，天不能覆盖，地不能承载。女娲看到她的子民们陷入了巨大的灾难之中，很难过，便决心用五色石把天补好，最终女娲使人类免受了天灾。女娲为人类建立了婚姻制度，使青年男女相互婚配，繁衍后代，也因此被古人称为“婚姻之神”。女娲是中华民族伟大的母亲，她是被民间广泛崇拜的创世神和始祖神。

The Legend of Nuwa

Nuwa was a highly esteemed matriarchal clan society tribal leader in Chinese remote antiquity. According to ancient Chinese legends, the goddess Nuwa created human beings. In prehistorical times before Xia Dynasty, the four corners of the sky fell down and the earth cracked. The sky could not cover and the earth could not carry all the things. When Nuwa saw her people suffering in this huge disaster, she felt sad for them and decided to mend the sky with the rocks of five colors. At last, she protected people from the disaster. Nuwa established the institution of marriage which allowed young men and young women to get married and give birth to their offspring. For this reason, ancient Chinese people regarded Nuwa as“Goddess of Marriage”. As the great mother of the Chinese nation, Nuwa is the Creator and ancestor widely worshipped in the folks.
