There was a rose that faded young;

I saw its shattered beauty hung

Upon a broken stem.

I heard them say, "What need to care

With roses budding everywhere?"

I did not answer them.

初绽玫瑰丧芳颜，

凋零断枝间。

吾听有人言，

“天涯处处玫瑰艳，

何须怀伤感？”

不愿回答吾哑然。

There was a bird, brought down to die;

They said, "A hundred fill the sky-

What reason to be sad?"

There was a girl, whose lover fled;

I did not wait, the while they said,

"There's many another lad."

一只鸟儿坠地亡；

有人讲，“天空百鸟翔-

何故要悲伤？”

一位姑娘的情人逃亡；

立刻，有人讲，

“还有众多好儿郎。”
