    [03:28.82]Passage Accepting an Invitation in America

    [03:38.67]Once you accept an invitation,it is better not to change you mind.

    [03:47.50]Americans arrange the table and food for the number of guests they have invited.

    [03:54.76]Americans are particular about time.

    [04:00.12]But they do not expect you to come "on time",

    [04:05.68]rather 15 minutes later than the time specified.

    [04:12.53]For instance,if you are invited to come at six,

    [04:18.69]the host will expect you no earlier than that time

    [04:24.44]and probably no later than fifteen minutes after six.

    [04:30.50]It is an American custom to show guests around the house,

    [04:36.98]but they do not expect you to touch everything you see.

    [04:42.85]If you are interested in something you see,

    [04:48.50]you should ask for permission to touch it.

    [04:53.46]At the table,conversation is general,

    [04:59.23]but you should comment about how good the food is.

    [05:05.08]If you truly do not like the food,

    [05:09.92]you may say something about how nice it looks or ask how it is prepared.
