455　need和want

1　need 表示“需要，必需”，既可作行为动词，也可作情态动词。作行为动词时，后接名词、动词或不定式。need 着重客观上的需要。

All plants need water and sunshine. 所有的植物都需要水和阳光。

John needs help. 约翰需要帮助。

The knife is dull. It needs sharpening. 这把刀钝了，需要磨一磨。

That question really doesn't need answering. 那个问题的确不需要回答。

The old man will need looking after. 这位老人需要照顾。

The point needs clarifying. 这一点需要澄清。

The bike needs repairing. 这辆自行车需要修理 。

the bike needs to be repaired.

We need to build a new bridge here. 我们需要在这里造一座新桥。

You need not go there. 你不需要去那里。（情态动词 ）

need还可作名词。

2　want 意为“想要，要求，要”，是行为动词，后接名词或不定式。want 强调主观上的要求。

Which one do you want ? 你想要哪一个？

The boy wants a knife. 这男孩想要一把小刀。

I want to go to the movies this evening. 今晚我想去看电影。

want doing表示“需要，有必要”。

The trees want watering. 树要浇水了。
