Man shot in robbery turns from hero to prisoner

         A Brazilian waiter who was shot in the leg trying to prevent a street robbery turned out to be a convicted robber on the run and was arrested, police said Friday.  "What started as an apparent altruistic act had a quite unexpected finish. The waiter, considered until then a hero, turned out to be a convicted runaway," a police spokeswoman said.  The man's behavior while in the hospital where he was treated for his wound prompted detectives to check his record. They found a 1996 arrest warrant for him and took him to prison, where he must serve a seven-year sentence.  Police were checking testimony of the victim of Wednesday's robbery to see if the man had really protected her from assailants or was taking part of the robbery.

       上周五警方称，一起在街头抢劫中见义勇为而腿部中弹的一名巴西招待证明是负罪在逃犯，并且已被逮捕。警方发言人说：“原本看起来是一次利他主义的行为结果却大大出乎人们的意料。在此之前他被看作是一个英雄，可是结果居然是在逃犯”。该男子在医院疗伤时的行为促使探员们去查了他的履历，发现一份针对此人的逮捕状，于是将其送进监狱。他要在里面服满7年徒刑。警方正在查看上周三劫案受害者的证言，以便弄清那名男子的确保护她免受袭击，还是他本人当时也在实施抢劫。
