(七)汉语多谓语句的译法

汉语单句的一个主语后面常用逗号连接两个或两个以上的谓语,称为多谓语句或并列谓语句。译法有三种:

I.译成英语并列谓语句,用并列连词连接(前提是汉语的谓语之间可以理解成并列关系。注意一定不要仅仅用逗号连接两个谓语)

1)他把书接过来摆在膝盖上。

He took the book and laid it on his lap.

2)当前最重要的任务是发展国民经济,提高人民生活水平。

The most important task at present is to develop national economy and raise people's living standards.

3)他们大大促进了美国文化的发展,提高了全美人民的生活水平。

They have greatly promoted the development of American culture and improved the whole nation's living standards.

4)中国经济成功地进行了“软着陆”,这是宏观经济调控的结果。它控制了通货膨胀,避免了经济的大起大落,保持了经济的快速增长。

China's economy has succeeded in soft-landing.That is the result of macro control and adjustment.It has curbed inflation,prevented major fluctuations and helped maintain a rapid growth of economy.

II.把一个或一些谓语译成英语的谓语,另外的谓语则译成英语的非谓语动词形式、介词词组或名词词组作修饰语(前提是汉语的谓语之间可以理解成主次关系。非谓语动词形式在这是指不定式和分词,表目的时用不定式,表伴随或结果时用分词)

1)当前最重要的任务是发展国民经济,以提高人民生活水平。

The most important task at present is to develop national economy so as to raise people's living standards.

2)中国经济成功地进行了“软着陆”,这是宏观经济调控的结果。它控制了通货膨胀,避免了经济的大起大落,保持了经济的快速增长。

China's economy has succeeded in soft-landing.That is the result of macro control and adjustment.It has curbed inflation and helped maintain a rapid growth of economy without major fluctuations.

或

China's economy has succeeded in soft-landing.That is the result of macro control and adjustment.It has curbed inflation while maintaining a rapid growth of economy without major fluctuations.

3)西安为陕西省省会,位于陕西省的中心,是我国中西部主要的工业、科技、文化、教育、商业和金融中心。

Located at the center of Shaanxi,Xi'an is the capital city of the province and is a major industrial,scientific and technological,cultural,educational,commercial and financial center in central and western China.

或:

Xi'an,capital city of Shaanxi,is located at the center of the province and is a major industrial,scientific and technological,cultural,educational,commercial and financial center in central and western China.

4)亚洲经济是世界经济的重要组成部分。亚洲经济迅速发展,为世界经济增添了活力,为国际贸易和投资开辟了巨大的市场。

Asia's economy is an important component of the world economy.It has developed rapidly,instilling vitality into the world economy and opening vast markets for international trade and investment.

5)中国政府将继续坚定不移地奉行独立自主的和平外交政策,同世界各国建立和发展友好关系,反对霸权主义和强权政治,维护世界和平,推动社会发展,促进人类进步。

The Chinese government will unswervingly pursue its independent foreign policy of peace by establishing and developing friendly relations with other countries and opposing hegemonism and power politics so as to safeguard world peace and promote social development and the progress of mankind.

6)我们要积极推进经济体制和经济增长模式的根本改变,努力实现“九五”计划和2010年远景目标。

We must vigorously promote the fundamental shift of the economic mechanism and the mode of economic growth,with an aim to fulfill the Ninth Five-Year Plan and attain the Long-Range Objectives through the Year 2010.
