(八)汉语复合长句的译法汉语的几个意义相关的单句常用逗号连接,构成复合长句。译法有四种:

I.译成若干独立的英语简单句,用句号或分号连接

标点符号不是汉语的发明,而是对英语的借鉴。汉语的标点用法远远不如英语的严谨。汉语的几个意义相关的单句常用逗号连接,但译成英语一定要用句号或分号连接。

1)中世纪时期,手工业者就已开始专门制造产品,商人也开始专营商品销售,出现的店铺越来越多,商贸活动迅猛发展。

Ever since the Middle Ages,handcraft men have begun specializing in manufacturing.Merchants have begun specializing in selling.An increasing number of stores and shops have emerged.Commercial and trade activities have begun boosting.

2)我们的国家大,人口众多,经济落后,农业要搞上去,最重要的还是要依靠一系列正确的政策调动农民的积极性,自力更生,艰苦奋斗。

Our country is a big one.It has a large population.Its economy is also backward.To develop agriculture,the most important thing to do is to mobilize the initiative of the peasants to work hard and self-reliantly by means of a series of correct policies.

3)一个世纪以来,中国人民在前进道路上经历了三次历史性的巨大变化,产生了三位站在时代前列的伟大人物:孙中山、毛泽东、邓小平。

In the past century,the Chinese people have undergone three historical changes on their road of development.Three great figures have come into being who led their ages:Sun Yat-sen,Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.

II.译成英语的并列句,用并列连词连接

1)中世纪时期,手工业者就已开始专门制造产品,商人也开始专营商品销售,出现的店铺越来越多,商贸活动迅猛发展。

III.译成英语的复合句,用主从连词连接

China's economy has succeeded in soft-landing,which is the result of macro control and adjustment.

2)中世纪时期,手工业者就已开始专门制造产品,商人也开始专营商品销售,出现的店铺越来越多,商贸活动迅猛发展。

IV.译成英语的复杂简单句,将一个单句译成主句,其他用非谓语动词形式、介词词组或名词词组等译作修饰语

1)中国经济成功地进行了“软着陆”,这是宏观经济调控的结果。

China's economy has succeeded in soft-landing,a result of macro control and adjustment.

2)门口放着一堆雨伞,颜色各异,大小不一。

In the doorway lies a pile of umbrellas of different colors and sizes.

3)我们的国家大,人口众多,经济落后,农业要搞上去,最重要的还是要依靠一系列正确的政策调动农民的积极性,自力更生,艰苦奋斗。

In so vast a country with such a large population and backward economy as China,agriculture advance requires above all else mobilizing,by means of a series of correct policies,the initiative of the farmers to work hard and self-reliantly.

4)亚洲经济是世界经济的重要组成部分。亚洲经济迅速发展,为世界经济增添了活力,为国际贸易和投资开辟了巨大的市场。
