辨 析：
原译者显得太草率，看到show和color两个词就想起汉语中某个说法，就随便乱套胡译。小时候刚学英语时，我们也编过give you some color see see 的“浑说”，想起来挺有意思。但那毕竟是开玩笑，不是学英语的正路，更不能这样对待翻译。show one's colors 是一个成语，完整的说法是show one's true colors。
不要小看color这个词，在英语中有大量的成语和习惯说法。color单数的意思是“颜色”。有些说法和汉语类似，如“色盲”是color blind；“戴着有色眼镜看事物”是look at things through colored spectacles。color亦常指肤色、脸色等，如 have a high color表示“红光满面”， off color常指“气色不好”（也可指“褪色”），可以猜出 gain color当然是“脸色变红润”、“气色变好”的意思。而 give color to something有“使某事物生色”、“渲染”的意思，如果做假宣传则是 give a false color（to...）了。复数colors 的意思完全不一样，常转指“旗帜”、“彩旗”，因而衍生出许多习惯用语，如with flying colors意为“成功地”、“出色地”，可以想象出军旗飘扬、凯歌高奏的样子。“参军”可以说成join the colors或 serve with the colors；可以猜出stick to one's colors，nail one's colors to the mast是“坚持不退让”、“忠贞不渝”的意思；而相反，desert the colors意为“开小差”，lower one's colors和haul down one's colors则是“投降”的意思。至于 fight / sail under false colors和 hang out false colors 是“打着假的旗号骗人或弄虚”。in one's true colors表示“以真实的面目”。show one's (true) colors是“露出真面目”。所以原句的意思是：这一回他可要露出本来的面目了。
