iv. 不定式、动名词作介词宾语
1. 带疑问词的不定式可作介词的宾语。
They havent decided on when to leave for Beijing.
何时去北京，他们还未达成一致意见。
Whether we can succeed depends on how to solve the preblem.
我们是否能成功取决于如何解决这个问题。
2. 不定式只作五个介词的宾语：but, except, save, about, besides。
He seldom comes to see me except to borrow money from me.
除了向我借钱，他很少来看我。
The child did nothing except sleep . （句子中有do，不定式可省略to）
除了睡觉这孩子什么也没有做。
I hardly remember what I did besides read . （句子中有do，不定式可省略to）
除了读书我几乎不记得做了什么。
I was about to leave when the bell rang.
我正要离开就在这时电话铃响了。
3. 动名词可以作单个介词或复合介词的宾语：after, before, on, by, without, besides, since, in, instead of, how about, what about。
He burst into tears on hearing the news.
一听到消息他就突然哭了。
She left without saying goodbye to us.
她没有向我们道别就走了。
He went to the cinema last night instead of doing his homework.
昨夜他去看电影了，而不是做作业了。
Since returning from abroad, he has been very busy.
自从国外回来到现在，他一直很忙。
4. 动名词作以下动词短语的宾语：lead to, stick to, look forward to, be obliged to, prefer ... to, insist on, see to, devote ... to, get used to, object to, prevent ... from, keep ... from, stop ... from, spend ... in, feel like, depend on, thank for, be proud of, be fond of, be afraid of/be tired of/be sick of, succeed in, be good at, join in, congratulate on, excuse for, can't resist。
He devoted all his time to studying .
他把所有时间都放在了学习上。
