73. When I Have Fears

When I have fears that I may cease to be

Before my pen has glean'd my teeming brain,

Before high-piled books, in charactery,

Hold like rich garners the full-ripen'd grain;

When I behold, upon the night's starr'd face,

Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,

And think that I may never live to trace

Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance;

And when I feel, fair creature of an hour,

That I shall never look upon thee more,

Never have relish in the faery power

Of unreflecting love——then on the shore

Of the wide world I stand alone, and think

Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.

我担心，在我停止呼吸以前，

我的笔未及厘清勃发的思想，

厚厚的一叠书，墨写的青简，

未及将成熟的谷物收获归仓；

在满布星斗的夜空，我看见

美妙的传奇化作巨大的云团，

我思量，我会活不到那一天，

[1]约翰·济慈（John Keats，1795—1821），浪漫主义诗人，生于伦敦的一个马夫家庭。15岁时父母双亡，只得辍学，做了外科医生的学徒。1817年出版了第一部诗集，并弃医从文。1821年患肺结核去世，终年26岁。由于他特别讲究诗歌的韵律，追求诗歌艺术本身的完美，死后被称为“诗人的诗人”（a poets' poet）。代表作有《希腊古瓮颂》《灿烂的星》等。
