Smooth it slides upon its travel,	河面平滑，河水静静流，
Here a wimple, there a gleam— -	这儿浪一闪，那儿水一皱——
O the clean gravel !	啊，光洁的石头!
O the smooth stream !	啊，平静的溪流!
Sailing blossoms, silver fishes,	落花挂帆漂，银鱼儿水里跳，
Paven pools as clear as air— -	池塘平如镜，清水天空照——
How a child wishes	啊，孩子这样想啊：
To live down there !	住在那里有多好!
We can see our coloured faces	我们能看见自己的红脸庞，
Floating on the shaken pool	池面在摇晃，脸庞在动荡，
Down in cool places,	动荡在幽暗、清凉
Dim and very cool;	而又安静的地方;
Till a wind or water wrinkle,	过来一阵风，吹皱一池水，
Dipping marten, plumping trout,	貂儿一身湿，鳟鱼窜浪飞，
Spreads in a twinkle	水纹在扩散，只一会儿，
And blots all out.	波平浪静风不吹。
See the rings pursue each other;	瞧水圈一个把一个来追;
All below grows black as night,	河底下象夜晚一般漆黑，
Just as if mother	正像妈妈吹灭了
Had blown out the light	一支蜡烛的光辉!
Patience, children, just a minute	孩子们，再等一分钟时光——
See the spreading circles die;	那扩散的水圈儿就会消亡;
The stream and all in it	溪水和水里的一切
Will clear by-and-by	会重新清澈明亮。
