Green groweth the holly,

So doth the ivy.

Though winter blasts blow never so high,

Green groweth the holly.

As the holly groweth green,

And never changeth hue,

So I am, ever hath been,

Unto my lady true.

As the holly groweth green

With ivy all alone

When flowers cannot be see

And greenwood leaves be gone,

Now unto my lady,

Promise to her I make

From all other only

To her I me betake.

Adieu, mine owne lady,

Adieu, my speciall,

Be sure, and ever shall.

[1]亨利八世（Henry VIII，1491——1547），英国国王，1509——1547年在位。亨利七世之子。1534年国会通过《至尊法案》，宣布国王为英国教会最高领袖，将英格兰圣公会立为英国国教，从而提高了王室在教会中的地位。他先后娶过六个妻子，其中两个被离弃，两个在伦敦塔被处死。
